Heritage Style Restoration in Strathfield 13

Today, the 7th of April 2025, is the official day of the blog’s publication.

Well, back to Strathfield this last month or so in February-March 2025,  [I was last there in January 2023]. Since 1998, I have carried out building work like an extension, a carport and seventy metres of front fence and a lot of maintenance work at the house in Strathfield. Wood rots and needs to be mended with tender loving care, if not replaced.  We identified the house as Arts & Crafts style, not Federation style.

On the 13th of February 2025, I returned to Strathfield to undertake yet again the some restoration work on the cedar timber fence that I built in 2008, and it was again heartbreaking. I found varying degrees of wet and dry rot, and with days of dedication, patience and hard work, I managed my way through the work, trying to get it ready for decorative painting.  The existing twenty-seven-year-old gate had to be rehinged to the Australian hardwood post. The rear handrail had to be spliced. Unfortunately, the family dog passed, so I had to remove protective wire panels. It was time to replace the flyscreen mesh on the flyscreens in the ballroom. Lastly, the metal roof panel of the bay window was rusting out, so it needed replacement, as seen below. It is a sheet metal with upturned edges shaped in situ and inserted underneath the existing roll tops.
