Friends, in 2009 my chosen blog designer provided a game plan and a decent upfront fee. After expending AUD$, years go by so quickly, and a new blog designer disagrees thus I spent more AUD $ upfront in 2017.

A new house/cafe is under construction in HigashiKawa Town in Hokkaido. Much of the wood being used is recycled lumber from older buildings. The main logs are new wood.

Rice Straw Insulation

The insulation for the house/cafe consists of bales of rice straw, harvested from the rice field across the street and behind the person. Filmed on 2009 August 8 in HigashiKawa Town, Hokkaido Japan.

Rice straw is the most abundant agricultural waste in Southeast Asia. A versatile, novel and environmentally friendly aerogel was successfully fabricated from rice straw. The final product has the potential to be applied in a wide range of applications including oil-spill cleaning, thermal insulation, and acoustic absorption.
