Family Safety With Smoke Alarms

Friends, in 2009 my chosen blog designer provided a game plan and a decent upfront fee. After expending AUD$, years go by so quickly, and a new blog designer disagrees thus I spent more AUD $ upfront in 2017.

Time rolls on and the blogs are judged wrong by the powerhouse. So be it, the story of my life! Simon says you must not piggyback an internet video.

As a result, today 30 October 2022 I declare the video is deleted or perhaps the video was deleted previously from this blog post. The information, however, is current and there are so many comments so I will not delete the post.

Regardless of the subject of the blog is liked. Type a relevant Boolean term into ‘YouTube’ or your selected search engine to find the relevant information. Blog on and stay safe.

A battery-operated smoke alarm [not a detector in Australian homes] with electricity backup should be on every level of your home and before the bedrooms. Smoke detectors are used in commercial buildings not what is called a Class 1a here in Australia. Make sure the active battery is in place with the cover on correctly. A house burnt down in Queensland Australia where members of three families were lost. Twenty-five years earlier the battery was removed because it was always beeping. Commercial buildings are Classified as Class 2 – 9 NCC BCA Volume 1 2019 [and previous editions].

One time, in 2016,  I inspected a sixty square metre granny flat with a smoking tenant in his kitchen, having opened the smoke alarm flap and removed the battery. The inspection result was categorically listed as unsatisfactory requiring rectification.

The home improvement expert, Danny Lipford, tells you everything you need to know about smoke alarms, from which type to choose to where to locate them in your house. Visit dannylipford.com for more home improvement videos.

In Australia, the codes stipulate a smoke alarm can be on the ceiling or on a wall close to the ceiling as per the photograph below.
In NSW Occupation Certificates are accompanied by Smoke Alarm Certificates.
