Consumer Building Guide NSW- Occupation Certficate

Occupation Certificate [OC]

Before you occupy the building, you must obtain an occupation certificate from your Principal Certifying Authority [PCA].

Firstly your PCA would have issued the appropriate local council-approved Development Application with a subsequent Construction Certificate or alternatively a Complying Development Certificate [CDC] to authorise the start of building work.

Secondly, your PCA would inspect the build at critical stages determined by government legislation including the completed work to determine if the building generally satisfies the relevant standards, the initial DA or CDC approval and is suitable to occupy and use.

When satisfactory, your PCA will issue an occupation certificate.

It is an offence to occupy or use a building without an occupation certificate [OC].
