In the first decade of the  21st century, the environment has become an important issue and as such, the Federal Government has put a lot more money and effort into schemes to help the environment.  Now each year the requirements are changing and new schemes are coming in.  To get the most up-to-date information the government environmental websites is very usual.  It can be found at www.environment.gov.au

Some of the most recent schemes that affected housing are:
Rebates and Green loans – there are rebates available when installing ceiling insulation and solar hot water.
Energy-efficient lighting – this involves the phase-out of incandescent light globes.
Rainwater tanks – there are rebates available when installing a rainwater tank [RWT].
