Subsequent to this date, there have been continuous upgrades and tightening of the standards every 3 years by the energy and utility commission. In order to accommodate title 24, certified products are often used during construction like those that possess the EnergyStar seal amongst others, and John makes a note that one can only tell apart what is truly a legitimate third-party certification by being in the industry for a long time. He gives an example of one third-party certification that he considers greenwashing that all wood users should be aware of.

Greenwashing is disinformation disseminated by an organization so as to present an environmentally responsible public image.
