Heritage Style Restoration in Strathfield 1

In 1998, I started working in/on a house in STRATHFIELD NSW 2135 AUSTRALIA and as of July 2017 still there. According to my calculations, that’s nearly 20 years. Why has it taken that long? The house was on an estate reportedly built by a grandson of the founder of Arnott’s biscuits. Whilst I was growing up Arnott’s biscuits was a family and Australian tradition. The big house would be Federation style with Art Deco influence and a lot of eccentricities by its original owner-builder. It has fantastic original lead lights, a ballroom, and magnificent timber features on a rambling block of land. Reportedly the house was previously owned by the owner of Lowes Menswear. 

Initially, I installed a quantity of custom-made timber-framed flyscreens. Over the years I was contracted to build an extension, build a three-car carport [photograph above], build 70 lineal metres of a boundary fence, install window flyscreens blending in with the heritage style of the house, build love seats, install fretwork, renovate rooms, renovate a bathroom, install shelving in the existing built-ins, restorative maintenance (as shown in the blog Heritage Style Restoration 6), general maintenance, installed timber gates, take preventative measures to stop family pet dogs chewing my good work and even furniture maintenance. Well, that’s a lot of work and that’s why it has taken so long.

Engagement for the certification work is on a contract basis.

Also, a pre-purchase property inspection or building inspection by Michael Como may empower you with knowledge about the condition of a property currently or before you buy it and help you avoid future problems and unexpected costs. However, this service can only be conducted if the insurer is on-side, and currently, they are not and as a result, we do not conduct it.
