Well back to Strathfield this last month in November 2022 [I was last there in October 2019], since 1998 I have carried out a lot of maintenance work there at the house in Strathfield. Wood rots and needs to be mended with tender loving care, if not replaced. On the 25th November 2022 talking to the proud owner of the house since 1998 I tried to convince them to remove all the high maintenance treated pine, but firstly get an architect to design infill panels made of galvanised wrought iron and also apply to the council for approval. We identified the house as Arts & Crafts style, not Federation style. The owners said they did not want to change the infills and I was instructed to ”do the patching job, using” my ”discretion as to the most appropriate approach”.

On the 28th of November 2022, I returned to Strathfield to undertake yet again the massive task of restoration work on the treated pine timber fence that I built in 2008 and it was again heartbreaking. A number of panels of the fence were affected to varying degrees by wood wet and dry rot and with weeks of dedication, patience and hard work I am getting through it trying to get it ready for decorative painting.  I have expended 203 hours with some 16 panels affected by rot. Bottom rails cut/carved on site! Rails attached to the side of the existing twenty-four-year-old gates had to be patched as well. Well I finished on 25/1/2023.

It is crazy that current suppliers of the LOSP-treated pine claim the product will last 25 years. Here are some during photos [by Como]:
