Heritage Style Restoration 35
Heritage Style Restoration in Ashfield 2
The Heritage Style Restoration 34 blog was the first in this series. The local council approved building work namely ground and first-floor alterations and additions to the existing heritage-listed dwelling house. The first-floor alterations and additions are more towards the rear of the existing house. I was engaged and contracted to issue a Construction Certificate authorising the commencement of the so-described new building work. The new building work includes the bathroom and laundry. A couple of months ago I conducted the wet areas waterproofing critical stage inspection at the property for the bathroom and laundry waterproofing. The applicable codes are the National Construction Code Building Code of Australia Volume 2 2019 and Part 3.8.1 & Australian Standard AS 3740 – 2010 or more importantly AS3740- 2021 [Published 23/7/2021].
The Australian codes require for example require angle barriers on the floor and walls in shower areas to be waterproof to not less than 1800 mm above the floor substrate.
For one, the sealing & water-proofing around taps were done satisfactorily. Well, I found the waterproofing work to be generally satisfactory but as per procedure requested a Waterproofing Certificate from the installer of the wet area waterproofing system that the materials used and the installation completed complies with the requirements of Part 3.8.1 of the NCC BCA Vol 2 2019 and the requirements of AS3740 – 2010 Waterproofing of Domestic Areas.
Incidentally, for new work authorised on or after the 1st of May 2023 the applicable code National Construction Code Building Code of Australia Volume 2 2022 and Part 10.2 & Australian Standard AS 3740 – 2010 or more importantly AS3740- 2021.
