A high-energy efficient Passive House is being built in Syracuse, NY, as part of the From the Ground Up project, to build affordable green homes in the historically Near Westside neighbourhood.

The passive house has energy-saving appliances, high-efficiency water heaters, high-density foam air sealers, R38 insulated roof materials and double glazed low emissivity windows.

The glass used in double-glazing windows for thermal insulation is known as Low E or low-emissivity glass. It has a transparent metallic coating that works in two ways to economise heating energy.
